Weekly GLP-1 Injection
A once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist injection used in type 2 diabetes that also supports meaningful weight loss. Prescription only, after medical assessment.
Plain English
Patient-Friendly Explanation
A weekly GLP-1 injection is a weight-loss medication given once a week with a small pen, providing continuous appetite control between doses. Many patients find the once-weekly routine easier to sustain than daily medication.
Medical
Clinical Definition
Once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist formulations are designed for extended exposure, maintaining steady-state receptor activation with a single subcutaneous injection per week. Registration trials of the most potent weekly agents report placebo-subtracted weight loss of roughly 10–17% at 68–72 weeks, together with improvements in waist circumference, blood pressure and glycaemic measures. Doses are titrated over several weeks to tolerance; injection-site reactions and transient gastrointestinal effects are the most common adverse events. Once-weekly dosing improves adherence compared with daily regimens and suits patients who prefer fewer injection days; as with all GLP-1 therapies, it is prescribed as part of a supervised weight-management programme.
