Plain English

Patient-Friendly Explanation

Laser lipolysis is a minimally invasive treatment that uses laser energy to heat and melt fat beneath the skin, which is then naturally removed by the body or gently suctioned out. It is used for smaller, stubborn fat areas rather than for major weight loss, and it can also tighten the overlying skin. Recovery is usually quicker than traditional liposuction.

Medical

Clinical Definition

Laser lipolysis, also called laser-assisted liposuction, is a minimally invasive body-contouring procedure in which a laser fibre introduced through a small cannula delivers thermal energy to disrupt fat cell membranes and liquefy fat, which may be aspirated or left for lymphatic clearance. The thermal effect also stimulates collagen remodelling, providing a skin-tightening benefit. It is indicated for focal fat reduction in people near their goal weight, not as a treatment for obesity.

Key Insight

Why It Matters

Laser lipolysis is a body-contouring option for stubborn fat after you have reached a healthy weight, not a substitute for weight loss. We can advise whether you are a suitable candidate or whether medical weight management should come first.
