Bupropion is a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) that increases synaptic concentrations of norepinephrine and dopamine. Its weight-loss effects are thought to stem from POMC neuron activation in the hypothalamus, which suppresses appetite. When combined with naltrexone (as Contrave), the synergistic effect produces more significant and sustained weight reduction than either agent alone.
