Cagrilintide

Cagrilintide is a newer weight loss medication that works by mimicking a hormone called amylin, which is naturally released by your pancreas after meals to help you feel full. It is given as a once-weekly injection and is being studied both alone and in combination with semaglutide for enhanced weight loss effects.

Cagrilintide is a long-acting amylin analogue that acts on amylin receptors in the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius to enhance satiety and reduce food intake. It has a half-life of approximately 7–8 days, allowing once-weekly subcutaneous administration. In a Phase 2 trial, cagrilintide 4.5 mg produced 10.8% weight loss at 26 weeks, and the combination of cagrilintide with semaglutide (CagriSema) demonstrated up to 17.1% weight loss in early trials.
