Metabolic syndrome is not a single disease but a group of risk factors: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess belly fat, and abnormal cholesterol. Having three or more means higher risk for serious health problems.

Clinical Definition
Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed when ≥3 of these criteria are met: elevated waist circumference (≥90cm for Asian men, ≥80cm for Asian women), elevated triglycerides, reduced HDL-C, elevated blood pressure, and elevated fasting glucose.

Why It Matters
Weight loss of 7-10% can reverse metabolic syndrome. This is one of the strongest arguments for medical weight management intervention.
