Accord Medical Clinic – Singapore
A measure of fat distribution — central obesity indicates higher health risk.
Your waist-to-hip ratio tells your doctor where your body stores fat. Belly fat (apple shape) is riskier than hip fat (pear shape). It is a simple but powerful health indicator.
WHR = waist circumference / hip circumference. WHO cutoffs: ≥0.90 men, ≥0.85 women indicates substantially increased metabolic risk. Waist circumference alone: ≥90cm Asian men, ≥80cm Asian women is high risk.
Central adiposity is a stronger predictor of cardiovascular and metabolic disease than BMI alone. WHR monitoring tracks health improvements beyond weight loss.
