Xenical works by blocking about 30% of the fat you eat from being absorbed by your body. This undigested fat passes out naturally. It is taken with meals and works best alongside a balanced diet plan.

Orlistat is a reversible inhibitor of gastric and pancreatic lipases. By blocking fat hydrolysis, it prevents absorption of approximately 30% of dietary triglycerides. It is one of the few weight loss medications approved for long-term use.

Xenical offers a non-systemic mechanism different from appetite suppressants, making it an option for patients who cannot tolerate CNS-acting weight loss medications.
