Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is a weight-loss surgery where about 80% of your stomach is removed, leaving a tube-shaped “sleeve.” This smaller stomach holds less food and produces less of the hunger hormone ghrelin, helping you feel full sooner and eat less.

Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is a restrictive bariatric procedure in which approximately 75–80% of the stomach is resected along the greater curvature, creating a narrow gastric tube. The procedure reduces gastric volume to 60–150 mL and induces significant reductions in ghrelin secretion, contributing to both mechanical restriction and neurohormonal appetite modulation.
