FAQ

About Weight Management:

Our clinic adopts a holistic approach to weight management using a combination of diet control, western medicine and acupuncture to help patients reduce and maintain their body weight.

Panbesy is the mainstay of pharmacological treatment at our clinic. Most patients are able to reduce at least 10 to 20 percent of their initial body weight after three to six months of treatment with Panbesy alone. It can be used in conjunction with acupuncture to maintain the body weight.

How often should the treatment be done?

The frequency of treatment depends on the requirements, conditions and results of each patient. Typically, treatments are done twice a week for the first 2-4 weeks. Subsequent treatments are done once a week. The Weight Management programme consists of 1 course of 10 sessions. Depending on the individual, 2 or more courses might be recommended.

How do you keep track of my progress?

Your weight and waist circumference will be measured throughout the programme.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin. It is generally not painful, however, some patients may feel some soreness when needles are inserted around the associated organ with blockages or imbalance.

Do I need to do other tests or take medicines?

A fasting blood test may be needed at the beginning of the treatment to determine your sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides levels and to rule out secondary causes of obesity such as hypothyroidism. An appetite suppressant may be added to the programme as it has shown to lead to further weight loss when used in conjunction with acupuncture.

What result should I expect?

Most patients will experience some weight loss after 4 weeks of treatment. Depending on your condition, you should expect to lose between 5 to 10 percent of your weight after one course of treatment. Subsequent courses may lead to further weight loss of up to 20 percent or more.

Who is the doctor in charge of the programme?

You will be under the care of Dr Joseph Wang, a Family Physician and Acupuncturist with more than 10 years of experience in weight management.
